The aquarium also partners with several local hotels to offer Monterey Bay Aquarium packages that include admission tickets. Check out the convenient and family-friendly Embassy Suites in nearby Seaside, which has free food for guests both morning and evening and plenty of room for the whole crew in their newly-renovated suites.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is considered one of the best aquariums in the world, and the lines outside certainly back that up. Luckily we had purchased our tickets in advance and waltzed straight inside. We're lucky we did, as the day went on, the museum grew increasingly crowded, and it was nice to view the exhibits before the crowds became overwhelming.

Debi from Go Explore Nature on March 9, 2010 at 10:48 a.m.Great review -- I love this aquarium, too. Thanks for the tip about buying tickets in advance -- that saves some serious waiting time. And yes, you will have to go back to see the penguins. On our last visit, I couldn't pull my son away from them!

Each zoo has its own admission policies and restrictions and may require a photo ID. Certain zoos may not honor a digital membership card or may require tickets be purchased in advance of your visit. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND contacting them before you visit.

To avoid long lines in summer and on weekends and holidays, buy tickets in advance or arrive early or after 4pm. Allow at least 2 hours for your visit, although you might feel like extending it to a full-day affair, so get your hand stamped and take a break for lunch. Tickets bought after 4pm are also good for the following day.

Purchasing tickets online in advance is strongly recommended. A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase at the Aquarium. Visitors who do not purchase tickets online may buy them at the Aquarium for the next available entrance time. Please note: On-site ticket purchases may require an extended wait.

Such tickets are still valid; please reach out to us at or (206) 386-4300 to rebook your ticket. And please note that, going forward, all tickets sold will be valid only on the date and time for which they were purchased unless otherwise noted on the ticket.
